GossipSub 1.1, as used for Ethereum 2.0, allows a peer to maintain a positive score (and thus not be pruned from the network) even though it continuously misbehaves by never forwarding topic messages.
CVE-2022-2584 1 Protocol 1 Go-codec-dagpb 2025-04-11 N/A 7.5 HIGH
The dag-pb codec can panic when decoding invalid blocks.
CVE-2023-40583 1 Protocol 1 Libp2p 2024-11-21 N/A 7.5 HIGH
libp2p is a networking stack and library modularized out of The IPFS Project, and bundled separately for other tools to use. In go-libp2p, by using signed peer records a malicious actor can store an arbitrary amount of data in a remote node’s memory. This memory does not get garbage collected and so the victim can run out of memory and crash. If users of go-libp2p in production are not monitoring memory consumption over time, it could be a silent attack i.e. the attacker could bring down nodes o ...

CVE-2023-25568 1 Protocol 1 Boxo 2024-11-21 N/A 8.2 HIGH
Boxo, formerly known as go-libipfs, is a library for building IPFS applications and implementations. In versions 0.4.0 and 0.5.0, if an attacker is able allocate arbitrary many bytes in the Bitswap server, those allocations are lasting even if the connection is closed. This affects users accepting untrusted connections with the Bitswap server and also affects users using the old API stubs at `github.com/ipfs/go-libipfs/bitswap` because users then transitively import `github.com/ipfs/go-libipfs/b ...

CVE-2023-23631 1 Protocol 1 Go-unixfsnode 2024-11-21 N/A 5.9 MEDIUM
github.com/ipfs/go-unixfsnode is an ADL IPLD prime node that wraps go-codec-dagpb's implementation of protobuf to enable pathing. In versions priot to 1.5.2 trying to read malformed HAMT sharded directories can cause panics and virtual memory leaks. If you are reading untrusted user input, an attacker can then trigger a panic. This is caused by bogus fanout parameter in the HAMT directory nodes. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
CVE-2023-23626 1 Protocol 1 Go-bitfield 2024-11-21 N/A 5.9 MEDIUM
go-bitfield is a simple bitfield package for the go language aiming to be more performant that the standard library. When feeding untrusted user input into the size parameter of `NewBitfield` and `FromBytes` functions, an attacker can trigger `panic`s. This happen when the `size` is a not a multiple of `8` or is negative. There were already a note in the `NewBitfield` documentation, however known users of this package are subject to this issue. Users are advised to upgrade. Users unable to upgra ...

CVE-2023-23625 1 Protocol 1 Go-unixfs 2024-11-21 N/A 5.9 MEDIUM
go-unixfs is an implementation of a unix-like filesystem on top of an ipld merkledag. Trying to read malformed HAMT sharded directories can cause panics and virtual memory leaks. If you are reading untrusted user input, an attacker can then trigger a panic. This is caused by bogus `fanout` parameter in the HAMT directory nodes. Users are advised to upgrade to version 0.4.3 to resolve this issue. Users unable to upgrade should not feed untrusted user data to the decoding functions.
CVE-2023-22460 1 Protocol 1 Go-ipld-prime 2024-11-21 N/A 7.5 HIGH
go-ipld-prime is an implementation of the InterPlanetary Linked Data (IPLD) spec interfaces, a batteries-included codec implementations of IPLD for CBOR and JSON, and tooling for basic operations on IPLD objects. Encoding data which contains a Bytes kind Node will pass a Bytes token to the JSON encoder which will panic as it doesn't expect to receive Bytes tokens. Such an encode should be treated as an error, as plain JSON should not be able to encode Bytes. This only impacts uses of the `json` ...

CVE-2022-23495 1 Protocol 1 Go-merkledag 2024-11-21 N/A 7.5 HIGH
go-merkledag implements the 'DAGService' interface and adds two ipld node types, Protobuf and Raw for the ipfs project. A `ProtoNode` may be modified in such a way as to cause various encode errors which will trigger a panic on common method calls that don't allow for error returns. A `ProtoNode` should only be able to encode to valid DAG-PB, attempting to encode invalid DAG-PB forms will result in an error from the codec. Manipulation of an existing (newly created or decoded) `ProtoNode` using ...

CVE-2022-23492 1 Protocol 1 Libp2p 2024-11-21 N/A 7.5 HIGH
go-libp2p is the offical libp2p implementation in the Go programming language. Version `0.18.0` and older of go-libp2p are vulnerable to targeted resource exhaustion attacks. These attacks target libp2p’s connection, stream, peer, and memory management. An attacker can cause the allocation of large amounts of memory, ultimately leading to the process getting killed by the host’s operating system. While a connection manager tasked with keeping the number of connections within manageable limits ha ...

CVE-2022-23486 1 Protocol 1 Libp2p 2024-11-21 N/A 7.5 HIGH
libp2p-rust is the official rust language Implementation of the libp2p networking stack. In versions prior to 0.45.1 an attacker node can cause a victim node to allocate a large number of small memory chunks, which can ultimately lead to the victim’s process running out of memory and thus getting killed by its operating system. When executed continuously, this can lead to a denial of service attack, especially relevant on a larger scale when run against more than one node of a libp2p based netwo ...

CVE-2020-26283 1 Protocol 1 Go-ipfs 2024-11-21 6.5 MEDIUM 6.8 MEDIUM
go-ipfs is an open-source golang implementation of IPFS which is a global, versioned, peer-to-peer filesystem. In go-ipfs before version 0.8.0, control characters are not escaped from console output. This can result in hiding input from the user which could result in the user taking an unknown, malicious action. This is fixed in version 0.8.0.
CVE-2020-26279 1 Protocol 1 Go-ipfs 2024-11-21 5.5 MEDIUM 7.7 HIGH
go-ipfs is an open-source golang implementation of IPFS which is a global, versioned, peer-to-peer filesystem. In go-ipfs before version 0.8.0-rc1, it is possible for path traversal to occur with DAGs containing relative paths during retrieval. This can cause files to be overwritten, or written to incorrect output directories. The issue can only occur when a get is done on an affected DAG. This is fixed in version 0.8.0-rc1.
CVE-2020-12821 1 Protocol 1 Gossipsub 2024-11-21 7.5 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL

CVE-2020-10937 1 Protocol 1 Ipfs 2024-11-21 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
An issue was discovered in IPFS (aka go-ipfs) 0.4.23. An attacker can generate ephemeral identities (Sybils) and leverage the IPFS connection management reputation system to poison other nodes' routing tables, eclipsing the nodes that are the target of the attack from the rest of the network. Later versions, in particular go-ipfs 0.7, mitigate this.
