An issue in Open5GS v.2.7.0 allows an attacker to cause a denial of service via the 64 unsuccessful UE/gnb registration

Open5GS MME versions <= 2.6.4 contains an assertion that can be remotely triggered via a malformed ASN.1 packet over the S1AP interface. An attacker may send a `UE Context Release Request` message missing a required `MME_UE_S1AP_ID` field to repeatedly crash the MME, resulting in denial of service.

Open5GS MME versions <= 2.6.4 contain a reachable assertion in the `UE Context Release Request` packet handler. A packet containing an invalid `MME_UE_S1AP_ID` field causes Open5gs to crash; an attacker may repeatedly send such packets to cause denial of service.

This issue was addressed by removing the vulnerable code. This issue is fixed in iOS 15.7 and iPadOS 15.7, macOS Ventura 13. An app may be able to gain elevated privileges.

From the call trace, we can find three interrupts (noted A, B, C above): interrupt (A) is preempted by (B), which is further interrupted by (C). Subsequent investigations show that (B) results in nmi_enter() being called, but that it actually is a spurious interrupt. Furthermore, interrupts are reenabled in the context of (B), and (C) fires with NMI priority. We end-up with a nested NMI situation, something we definitely do not want to (and cannot) handle. The bug here is that spurious interrupts should never result in any state change, and we should just return to the interrupted context. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: md/raid1: properly indicate failure when ending a failed write request This patch addresses a data corruption bug in raid1 arrays using bitmaps. Without this fix, the bitmap bits for the failed I/O end up being cleared. Since we are in the failure leg of raid1_end_write_request, the request either needs to be retried (R1BIO_WriteError) or failed (R1BIO_Degraded).
